On the left part of the wall, between the first and the second window, a number of transparent and translucent, from light blue iridescenting layers of colour are to be superimposed on top of each other so that a floating, luminescent colour-surface emerges. The painted surface is to cover approx. 1/7 of the entire wall, the rest of the wall will be white washed on par with the colour-tone of the rest of the house. (See the sketches).
Although the design is meant to integrate itself into the panorama of the surrounding architecture, the primary intention is not to decorate the wall as such but to install a painting, a colour-surface, in the outer space- something that is unexpected at this spot and has therefore an irritating effect that attracts attention. The choice of colour, the spectrum of light blues and greens, are to call forth associations with water, sea, river variability, the state of flux etc.

The mural is thought to be the counterpart of the mural that is to be done in Cologne by Niteen Gupte during summer of 2001. While his mural takes the patina of Indian walls as its point of departure, the mural in Bombay is to transport a characteristic aspect of Cologne / the typical light green of the bridges on the Rhine, the reflection of these colours on the water etc.) to Mumbai visually.

In the frame-work of the entire project a joint exhibition is planned in the Artist Centre in Mumbai (02.-07.01.2001) where the sketches leading to the murals are to be presented along with other works so that the relationship between the murals and the rest of the work of the individual artists would be explicit.

Cooperating partners in Mumbai are the Jindal Foundation and the Kala Ghoda Association. They are the main organisers of the annual Art festival in the historical quarter in Mumbai where the mural also will be part of. (www.artindia.co.in)
