The mural in Bochum is ready

A mural is going to be realized in Bochum

The boss detail
With its 450 square metres the wall is a challenge for all participants. But the charm of this project is its integration in the comprehensive reorganization of the “Westpark”. At this territory the one hundred year old history of the “Ruhrgebiet” as a coal and steel area still is tangible, whereas the changes of the industrial society are not found more than at this place. At the terrain of the formerly large and important steel location a park is growing on three floors at the present time. It is considered to be a nearby recovery place for the people of Bochum and also a place for cultural activities and meetings.

landscape from Pinar
By the assistance of Farbfieber the Cuban painter Abel Morejon Gala from Pinar del Rio in the west of Cuba was proposed. Together with the NGO “Humanitäre Cuba Hilfe” (HCH; humanitarian Cuba aid) the organizers of the Bochum’s mural try to connect the global art project with the local North-South-labour.
The main engagement of the HCH is health supply. It is not only organizing necessary medicaments to Cuba, but complete operating theatres, hospital kitchens, high quality utensils up to more than one dialyse stations. In the region of the organization’s main contact, in the Cuban province Holguin, in the South East of Cuba, actually a representative of HCH lives and works.

There are many relationships between several social services in Cuba, and the communication between Holguin and Bochum are excellent.

Bochum detail
The members of HCH were immediately convinced of the idea of realizing a mural, but they also would like to invite an artist of their “sister town”. And when they got to know the artist Miguel Angel Salvó Reyes the questions of bureaucratic and financial problems didn’t matter any more, and so they invited a painter from Holguin, too.

The coming meeting of artists from the south and the north gets an European variation, because of the Luxembourg artist, Paul Mangan, who now lives in the “Ruhrgebiet”, is also asked to take part at the mural event.
